Chrysler Force Starter Drive Gears (Bendix)

Shop starter drive gears (often called the Bendix or starter gear) for Chrysler Force outboards. The drive gear engages the flywheel during starting. If it’s worn or damaged, the starter may spin without turning the engine or make grinding noises.

How to Choose the Correct Drive Gear

• Verify engine model and year: Drive gears vary by starter type and application.
• Confirm tooth count and diameter: Proper engagement requires the correct gear profile.
• Check starter compatibility: Some drive gears are specific to certain starter motors.

Common Drive Gear Symptoms

• Grinding during startup: worn gear teeth or poor engagement
• Starter spins but engine won’t crank: drive gear slipping or not extending
• Intermittent engagement: sometimes catches, sometimes free-spins
• Visible damaged teeth: chipped or rounded gear teeth

Tip: If a new drive gear doesn’t solve the issue, inspect the flywheel ring gear for damaged teeth and verify starter mounting alignment.
