Impellers | Honda Outboard
Shop Honda outboard impellers designed to restore proper water flow and protect your engine from overheating. The impeller is the heart of the water pump system and should be replaced regularly as part of routine maintenance or any time cooling performance drops.
Choosing the Right Honda Impeller
Selecting the correct impeller is critical to maintaining consistent cooling system performance. Always confirm your exact Honda model, horsepower, and serial number before ordering.
- Model and horsepower match: impeller dimensions and spline counts vary across Honda outboard platforms.
- Routine service interval: most impellers should be inspected annually and replaced at recommended service intervals.
- Saltwater use: frequent saltwater operation can accelerate impeller wear and hardening.
- Dry start damage: even a brief run without water can permanently damage impeller vanes.
- Lower unit service: replace the impeller any time the lower unit is removed for gearcase work.
Common Honda Impeller and Cooling Problems
- Weak or no telltale stream: worn, cracked, or missing impeller blades reduce water pressure.
- Overheat alarm: impeller may be slipping on the hub or failing to move enough water at idle or under load.
- Intermittent overheating at higher RPM: hardened impeller vanes may not seal properly inside the housing.
- Debris in cooling passages: broken impeller blades can travel through the cooling system and restrict flow.
If your pump housing is worn or scored, replacing the impeller alone may not fully restore cooling efficiency. Inspect the wear plate and housing carefully before installation to ensure long term reliability.
