Common Lower Unit Problems

• Milky or contaminated gear lube: indicates water intrusion from failed propshaft, driveshaft, or shift shaft seals.
• Oil leaking near prop or drain screws: commonly worn seal kits or damaged drain plug washers.
• Grinding or whining noise in gear: often worn gears or bearings inside the gearcase.
• Hard shifting or stuck in gear: inspect internal shift components and linkage alignment.
• Overheating at speed: check water pickup inlets for blockage or damage.
