Shop Outboard Parts by Engine System

Outboard engines use several interconnected systems. Select your manufacturer above to browse the exact categories available for your engine, including the following common repair and maintenance areas.

Common Outboard Problems and Where to Start

  • Engine overheating: inspect the water pump, impeller, thermostat, pressure-control components, cooling passages, and engine anodes.
  • Hard starting or rough idle: check fuel delivery, carburetor or injector operation, spark plugs, ignition components, filters, and intake sealing.
  • Weak spark or no spark: test ignition coils, stators, switch boxes or ignition modules, sensors, wiring, grounds, and related electrical components.
  • Low compression or poor power: inspect pistons, rings, cylinder condition, head and powerhead gaskets, bearings, and other internal engine components.
  • Milky gear lube: inspect prop shaft, driveshaft, shift shaft, bearing carrier, and other lower unit seals for water intrusion.
  • Lower unit or gearcase noise: inspect bearings, gears, clutch components, shafts, and gear lube condition before continued operation.
  • Trim or steering problems: inspect hydraulic fluid level, seals, hoses, trim motors, pumps, steering cylinders, and mechanical connections.

Pro Marine carries both genuine OEM parts and quality aftermarket replacement parts for many outboard maintenance, repair, and rebuild applications. Always confirm fitment using the engine model, serial number, horsepower, year range, or OEM part number when available.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find the correct parts for my outboard motor?

Start by identifying the engine manufacturer, horsepower, model number, serial number, and year. Select the manufacturer above to browse by engine system, or use the OEM parts lookup to locate the original part number from a factory diagram.

Can I search Pro Marine by OEM part number?

Yes. If you already have the OEM part number, enter it into the Pro Marine site search to locate available OEM and aftermarket replacement options. If you do not know the part number, use the OEM parts lookup first.

What information should I have before ordering an outboard part?

Have the engine manufacturer, horsepower, model number, serial number, and year whenever possible. An OEM part number from the original component or parts diagram is especially helpful because visually similar parts may fit different engine families.

What is the difference between OEM and aftermarket outboard parts?

OEM parts come from the original engine manufacturer. Aftermarket parts are replacement components manufactured by other marine parts companies for compatible applications. Pro Marine carries both OEM and aftermarket options across many common outboard engine systems.

Are aftermarket outboard motor parts reliable?

Quality aftermarket marine parts are commonly used for maintenance, professional repair, and engine rebuilding. The best option depends on the application, manufacturer, availability, and customer preference.

Do you carry parts for older outboard motors?

Yes. Pro Marine carries parts for many older Mercury, Mariner, Johnson, Evinrude, Chrysler, Force, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Nissan, and Tohatsu outboards. Availability varies by engine family and component.

What outboard parts are commonly replaced during routine maintenance?

Common maintenance items include engine oil, oil filters, fuel filters, spark plugs, water pump impellers, complete water pump kits, thermostats, gear lube, drain plug seals, anodes, and manufacturer-specific service kit components.

Fitment Tip: Outboard parts can vary by model, serial range, horsepower, and production year. Confirm the OEM part number or engine identification information whenever possible before ordering.

The Pro Marine 6E9825P Stop Switch with Lanyard is a replacement engine stop / emergency kill switch assembly used on select Yamaha, Mercury, and Mariner outboard applications.

What This Part is Used For

The engine stop switch is part of the outboard's emergency engine-shutdown system. The safety lanyard attaches to the operator and engages the stop switch during normal operation.

If the operator moves far enough away from the controls to pull the lanyard from the switch, the switch activates the engine's stop circuit and shuts down the engine.

Because this is a safety-related component, a damaged switch, broken lanyard, loose clip, corroded connection, or unreliable stop circuit should be corrected before operating the boat.

Important Fitment Note

Do not order this switch based only on engine horsepower. Yamaha used different stop-switch arrangements across model years, control configurations, and engine families.

Match your exact engine model and/or original stop-switch part number to the applications and cross-reference numbers below. If you are unsure, contact Pro Marine USA with the complete engine model and serial number before ordering.

Compatible Applications

The following applications are based on the supplied Yamaha and Mercury/Mariner catalog fitment information. Exact model identification is more reliable than horsepower alone.

Common Symptoms and Replacement Reasons

  • Engine stop switch is physically damaged or broken.
  • Safety lanyard or retaining clip is missing or damaged.
  • Engine will not reliably shut down when the lanyard is removed.
  • Switch operation is intermittent.
  • Electrical terminals or wiring at the original switch are damaged or corroded.
  • Restoring the engine's original emergency stop-switch safety system.

Installation Tips

  • Disconnect the battery or otherwise isolate engine electrical power before servicing the stop-switch circuit.
  • Photograph or label the original wiring before removing the existing switch.
  • Compare the replacement switch and connections with the original part before installation.
  • Inspect nearby wiring and terminals for corrosion, damaged insulation, or loose connections.
  • Secure the switch and wiring so they cannot interfere with steering or throttle movement.
  • After installation, test normal engine operation and verify that removing the lanyard shuts the engine down correctly.

If you are not familiar with marine ignition and stop-switch circuits, installation and testing should be performed by a qualified marine technician.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pro Marine 6E9825P?

6E9825P is a Pro Marine aftermarket engine stop switch assembly supplied with a safety lanyard for select Yamaha, Mercury, and Mariner outboard applications.

Does 6E9825P replace Yamaha 6E9-82575-02-00?

Yes. Yamaha 6E9-82575-02-00 is one of the primary OEM numbers cross-referenced to Pro Marine 6E9825P.

Does 6E9-82575-02-00 replace 6E9-82575-01-00?

Yes. Yamaha parts information identifies 6E9-82575-02-00 as the replacement for the earlier 6E9-82575-01-00 engine stop switch assembly.

Does this replace Sierra 18-65450?

Yes. Sierra 18-65450 is a cross-reference for this stop-switch application.

Is the safety lanyard included?

Yes. This Pro Marine replacement is supplied as a stop switch with lanyard.

Will this fit every Yamaha outboard in the horsepower ranges listed?

No. Fitment depends on the exact engine model, year, control arrangement, and original stop-switch configuration. Use the model listings above or match the original OEM number.

Why is the stop-switch lanyard important?

The lanyard allows the engine stop switch to shut down the engine if the operator is separated from the operating position far enough to pull the lanyard from the switch.

My engine runs normally but does not stop when the lanyard is pulled. Should I replace the switch?

A defective switch is one possible cause, but wiring, connections, and other components in the stop circuit should also be inspected. The cause should be diagnosed and corrected before operating the boat.

How can I confirm fitment if my model is not obvious?

Locate the complete model and serial information from your outboard and, if possible, the number from the original switch. Contact Pro Marine USA before ordering if you need help confirming the correct replacement.

What does Mercury 8M0168235 fit?
It fits Mercury 105HP Jet, 135HP, and 150HP outboards using the newer power trim assembly for serial numbers 2B752836 and up.

How do I know if I need this kit or the earlier version?
Check your engine serial number. If your engine is 2B752836 and up, this is the correct kit. If it is 2B752836 and below, you need the earlier 8M0060145 shock rod assembly.

Is this part used in the steering system?
No. This is a power trim assembly component.

Why does the serial number break matter?
Mercury updated the trim assembly design, so different shock rod parts are used before and after the 2B752836 serial break.
