Verado Power Steering Pump Conversion Guide (Gen B ➜ Gen C)
If your Mercury Verado needs a new power steering pump, use this guide to identify your current pump and upgrade correctly to the Gen C system.
Step 1: Identify Your Current Pump
Look at your existing power steering pump to determine which generation you have:
- Gen A/B — Requires conversion to Gen C.
- Gen C — Replacement parts listed below.
Note: Customers with “A” or Gen B models will need to convert their wiring to the Gen C style and purchase a new Gen C pump.

Step 2: Upgrade a Gen B System to Gen C
If you have a Gen B system, you’ll need these items to convert to Gen C:
- Gen C Power Steering Pump — Part #: 8M0199048
- Replacement hose (replaces Gen B metal dampener hose) — Part #: 8M0152467
- Signal Wire Conversion Kit — Part #: 8M0199050
- If you prefer replacing the entire signal harness:
Power Harness Options
You’ll need a new power harness as well. Choose one with or without an inline fuse:
With Fuse — recommended if your boat doesn’t already have an 80 A fuse:
Without Fuse — only if your boat already has an inline fuse; confirm it’s 80 A (Gen C), not 50 A (Gen B)
Step 3: Check the Automatic Power Switch (Multi-Engine Boats)
If you have twins, triples, or more engines, you may need to replace the Automatic Power Switch. Locate the power switch in your boat, then check the part number or the diagram on the box.
- If the diagram references 40 Amp, replace the switch.
- If the box shows any of these numbers:
895091K01,895091K02,895091K03,8M0133815— replace it. - If the part number is 8M0149746, you’re good. Otherwise, order 8M0149746
