Why Do Different 5/16" Hoses Use Different Clamps?
The 5/16" measurement describes the hose's inside diameter. It does not tell you the outside diameter.
Type A hose typically has a different construction and wall thickness than Type B or OEM hose, so its outside diameter can be larger even though all of the hoses have the same 5/16" inside diameter.
That is why the MPI 313-1 Type A hose uses the Oetiker 4-170 clamp, while the Type B hose uses 4-153 and the Mercury silver hose uses 4-145.
