What Does USCG Type B1/B2 Fuel Hose Mean?

The "B" designation identifies marine fuel hose that does not carry the same USCG fire-test requirement as Type A hose. Why Doesn't Every 5/16" Fuel Hose Use the Same Clamp?

5/16" identifies the hose's inside diameter, not its outside diameter. Different hose constructions can have different wall thicknesses and therefore different outside diameters.

That is why this MPI 315-056 Type B hose uses Oetiker clamp 4-153, while the Mercury OEM 5/16" silver hose uses Oetiker clamp 4-145.

Always match the clamp to the specific hose being installed rather than selecting a clamp based only on the hose's inside diameter.
