What This Thermostat Does
The thermostat regulates cooling-water flow through the engine so the powerhead can reach and maintain the correct operating temperature.
When the engine is cold, the thermostat restricts cooling-water flow. As the engine reaches approximately 122°F / 50°C, the thermostat begins opening to allow additional cooling water to circulate.
Proper thermostat operation helps support correct engine warm-up, fuel management, combustion quality and overall cooling-system performance.
