Fuel Supply Module Service Parts
The high-pressure pump is only one part of the Fuel Supply Module. When diagnosing or rebuilding an FSM, inspect the low-pressure fuel pump as well as the internal seals. A weak low-pressure pump can restrict fuel supply to the high-pressure side, while disturbed or deteriorated seals can create leaks after the module is serviced.
Mercury 8M0245917 Low-Pressure Fuel Pump
The low-pressure fuel pump used with compatible Mercury Fuel Supply Module applications. This pump supplies fuel to the FSM so the high-pressure side has an adequate fuel supply.
What This Part is Used For
The Mercury Fuel Supply Module receives fuel from the boat's fuel system and supplies fuel to the engine at the pressures required for electronic fuel injection. Inside the FSM, the low-pressure and high-pressure pumps perform different jobs.
The 8M0245916 high-pressure fuel pump supplies the pressure required on the high-pressure side of the EFI system. If the pump becomes weak or fails, the engine may not maintain adequate fuel pressure under acceleration or load.
High-Pressure vs. Low-Pressure FSM Pump
| Pump | Function |
|---|---|
| 8M0245916 High-Pressure Pump | Produces the high fuel pressure required by the electronic fuel-injection system. |
| 8M0245917 Low-Pressure Pump | Supplies fuel through the Fuel Supply Module so the high-pressure pump has an adequate fuel supply. |
Common Signs of High-Pressure Fuel Pump Problems
- Hard starting or extended cranking
- Engine starts but cannot maintain proper fuel pressure
- Loss of power during acceleration
- Hesitation under heavy engine load
- Engine may run normally at low RPM but lose power at higher RPM
- Fuel-pressure testing indicates insufficient high-side pressure
- High-pressure pump fails electrical or pressure testing
Why Inspect the Entire FSM?
A high-pressure fuel problem does not automatically mean the high-pressure pump itself has failed. The low-pressure side must provide enough fuel to keep the FSM supplied. A weak 8M0245917 low-pressure pump can therefore cause symptoms that resemble high-pressure pump failure.
Test fuel pressure and fuel delivery before replacing components. If the FSM must be opened, inspect the low-pressure pump, electrical connections, internal fuel passages, and seals at the same time.

Related Fuel Supply Module Service Parts
The low-pressure pump works together with the high-pressure pump inside the Mercury Fuel Supply Module. When diagnosing an FSM fuel problem, test both sides of the system and inspect the internal seals before replacing parts.
Mercury 8M0245916 High-Pressure Fuel Pump
The matching high-pressure fuel pump used in compatible Mercury Fuel Supply Module applications. It provides the fuel pressure required by the engine's electronic fuel-injection system.
What This Part is Used For
The 8M0245917 low-pressure fuel pump supplies fuel into and through the Fuel Supply Module. Its job is to maintain an adequate supply of fuel for the high-pressure side of the EFI system.
The associated 8M0245916 high-pressure pump then produces the higher fuel pressure required by the engine's fuel-injection system. Both pumps must function correctly for the engine to maintain consistent fuel delivery.
Low-Pressure vs. High-Pressure FSM Pump
| Pump | Function |
|---|---|
| 8M0245917 Low-Pressure Pump | Supplies fuel into and through the Fuel Supply Module so the high-pressure pump has an adequate fuel supply. |
| 8M0245916 High-Pressure Pump | Produces the high fuel pressure required by the engine's EFI system. |
Common Signs of Low-Pressure Fuel Pump Problems
- Hard starting or extended cranking
- Fuel Supply Module is not receiving adequate fuel
- Loss of power during acceleration
- Engine hesitation under load
- Engine may run normally at lower RPM but lose power at higher RPM
- Insufficient fuel supply feeding the high-pressure pump
- Low-pressure pump fails electrical or fuel-delivery testing
Why Test Both FSM Pumps?
Problems on the low-pressure side can create symptoms that appear to be a failing high-pressure pump. If the 8M0245917 low-pressure pump cannot keep the Fuel Supply Module supplied, the 8M0245916 high-pressure pump may not be able to maintain proper fuel pressure.
For this reason, fuel delivery and fuel pressure should be tested before replacing either pump. If the FSM must be opened, inspect the other pump, electrical connections, internal passages, and module seals while it is disassembled.

Mercury used several Fuel Supply Module and Vapor Separator configurations within the same horsepower families.
Always verify your engine serial number and original fuel pump number. This pump should be used where the application calls for 8M0062771, 8M0103289, 883202T02 or 883202T1.
Related Fuel Supply Module Parts
Servicing the Fuel Supply Module? The low-pressure pump is only one part of the system. Pro Marine also offers an alternate replacement low-pressure pump, a high-pressure pump for many compatible Verado / V6 / V8 applications, and the FSM seal kit.
Alternate 1-32-883202 Low-Pressure Fuel Pump
Alternate aftermarket low-pressure electric fuel pump for compatible Mercury Fuel Supply Module applications.
Pro Marine 3288P High-Pressure Fuel Pump
High-pressure FSM pump used with many compatible L6 Verado, 3.4L V6, 4.6L V8 and Mercury Racing applications that also use this low-pressure pump.
What This Fuel Pump is Used For
The low-pressure pump supplies fuel into and through the Mercury Fuel Supply Module or Vapor Separator. Its job is to keep the module supplied with enough fuel for the high-pressure portion of the EFI system.
On applications with separate low- and high-pressure pumps, the low-pressure pump does not create the final injection pressure. Instead, it keeps the reservoir supplied so the high-pressure pump can deliver the fuel pressure required by the injectors.
Low-Pressure vs. High-Pressure Fuel Pump
| Pump Type | Function |
|---|---|
| 883202 Low-Pressure Pump | Moves fuel into and through the Fuel Supply Module and maintains fuel supply for the high-pressure side. |
| High-Pressure Pump | Produces the higher pressure required by the engine's EFI system. The correct high-pressure pump varies by engine family and serial range. |
Common Signs of Low-Pressure Pump Problems
- Hard starting or extended cranking
- Fuel Supply Module does not stay adequately supplied with fuel
- Loss of power under acceleration
- Engine hesitation under load
- Engine runs at low RPM but loses power at higher RPM
- High-pressure pump becomes fuel-starved
- Low-pressure fuel-delivery test is below specification
- Pump fails electrical testing
Why Test Both Fuel Pumps?
A low-pressure pump problem can mimic a high-pressure pump failure. If the low-pressure side cannot keep the FSM supplied with fuel, the high-pressure pump may be unable to maintain proper pressure even if the high-pressure pump itself is operating correctly.
Diagnose fuel supply and fuel pressure before replacing parts. When the FSM is opened, inspect the other pump, wiring, electrical connectors, internal fuel passages and seals while the module is accessible.
