The Vertex 24228050 Piston Kit is a .020 oversize / .50mm oversize piston for select Yamaha four-stroke and Mercury 115HP EFI outboards.

Verified engine families include extensive Yamaha F115 and LF115 applications, select Yamaha F75 and F90 engines, and select Mercury 115HP EFI four-stroke outboards.

This piston is part of the same engine family as Yamaha 60C-W1164 and 68V-W1164 piston assemblies and Mercury 880895 piston assemblies.

IMPORTANT - .020 / .50MM OVERSIZE PISTON

This is NOT a standard-size piston.

The cylinder must be accurately measured and properly machined for the .020 / .50mm oversize piston before installation.

Oversize piston selection should be based on actual cylinder measurements, not only on the condition of the original piston.

Measure bore diameter, taper and out-of-round condition before machining. The cylinder should then be finished to the piston manufacturer's required piston-to-wall clearance.

When to Use a .020 Oversize Piston

A .020 oversize piston is used when cylinder wear, scoring or damage requires enough machining that the cylinder can no longer remain at standard size or .010 oversize.

Before machining, accurately measure cylinder diameter, taper and out-of-round. The finished bore must provide the correct piston-to-wall clearance for the Vertex piston.

When Should a Cylinder be Sleeved Instead?

If cylinder damage, corrosion or previous machining prevents the bore from being restored at .020 oversize, a replacement cylinder sleeve may be required.

The replacement sleeve is installed and then finished to the correct bore for whichever piston size will be used in the rebuilt engine.
