What This Part is Used For
The exhaust valve opens during the engine's exhaust stroke to allow combustion gases to leave the cylinder. It then closes against the valve seat so the cylinder can seal during the next compression and combustion cycle.
Exhaust valves operate in one of the hottest areas of the cylinder head, making correct valve condition, valve-seat contact and valve-guide clearance especially important.
When Should an Exhaust Valve Be Replaced?
Exhaust valves should be inspected whenever the cylinder head is removed or rebuilt. A burned, bent, worn or damaged exhaust valve can prevent the cylinder from sealing correctly and contribute to poor compression and engine performance.
Always inspect the valve seat, guide and stem seal when replacing the exhaust valve.
