What This Part is Used For
The exhaust valve stem seal fits around the exhaust valve stem and helps control oil movement between the valve stem and valve guide.
The seal allows the valve stem and guide to receive the lubrication they require while limiting excess oil from traveling through the guide and entering the exhaust port or combustion chamber.
Because exhaust-side components operate under high temperatures, the condition of the valve stem seal is especially important during a cylinder-head rebuild.

Valve stem seals are continually exposed to engine heat and repeated operating cycles. Over time, a seal may harden, crack, wear or lose its ability to properly control oil.
