The piston transfers combustion force through the connecting rod to the crankshaft while the piston rings seal combustion pressure and control oil on the cylinder wall.
During a rebuild, the cylinders should be accurately measured for diameter, taper and out-of-round condition before selecting standard or oversize pistons.
